At the beginning of 2011, Brayden O’Neal, a p.m. Pre-Kindergarden student at Mossman Elementary, was just like any other five-year-old boy. It wasn’t until May 2011 that things changed for the O’Neal family.

Brayden was diagnosed with Glioblastoma, a grade 4 aggressive cancer that affects the brain. Glioblastoma has one of the worst 5-year survival rates among all cancers. On average, people diagnosed with Glioblastoma only live twelve months following their diagnosis.

The O’Neil family moved from Ohio to Texas so that Brayden could receive treatment at the MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston. He has undergone six weeks of daily chemotherapy and radiation followed by monthly chemo since June 2011. He will be receiving more radiation and stronger impatient chemotherapy in hopes to extend his life.

Doctors are still trying to determine whether surgery would be an option. Even with the doctors’ help, Glioblastoma is still not curable.

Trying to raise awareness on this atrocious disease, Mossman Elementary has teamed up with Clear Falls High School and Bayside Intermediate, to help raise money for the O’Neil family.

In all three school stores at the Education Village, bookmarks and tie-dye wristbands with the words “NEGU” Brayden” engraved on them are being sold for only one dollar. The words “NEGU” stand for “Never Ever Give Up.”

“I’ve been impressed with how many students are motivated and want to get involved in not only buying the bracelets, but selling them as well,” said Coordinator of Camelot Kids and Child Development teacher at Clear Falls, Debbie Bacon. ”It’s a way to unite all three schools for this one cause to help this sick boy and his family.”

Brayden also has a facebook page called “Prayer’s for Brayden” and a charity that gives a good portion of the money for research on diseases similar to Braydens’ called Curesearch.org.

If you, or anyone you know, is interested in supporting Brayden’s struggle, you can by a bracelet from the Knight Stand or donate money to the charity.
